ANIMAL WELFARE POLICY

Objective

  • To outline The Phoenix Childrens Foundation’s (The Charity) ethical views regarding the care of our miniature Shetland ponies and all other animals.

The Policy

  • The welfare of The Charities ponies will be paramount at all times.
  • Whilst in the care of The Charity all ponies must be treated with respect, empathy and an understanding of their natural demands and biological make-up.
  • All ponies’ current and future welfare will be safeguarded on both emotional and physical levels. They will be provided with a secure and protective environment; with or without a companion of their own species as appropriate, and allowed the ability to express their natural coping mechanisms.
  • It is recognised that all behaviour is a direct result of both physical and emotional states and it is expected that all staff and volunteers will always act in the best interests of the ponies.
  • The Charities’ ponies will be afforded access to appropriate veterinary care to ensure physical well-being and freedom from pain and discomfort.
  • When The Charities’ ponies are being transported every effort to ensure their safety and comfort is made.
  • Relevant RSPCA guidelines on the welfare of working animals will at all times be adhered to.

Review

  • This policy will be reviewed annually by The Trustees
